A large part of the Netherlands lies below sea level. The Department of Waterways has tens of thousands of people working round the clock just to make sure the Dutch keep their feet dry. The Delta-Expo was created in 1986 in the control building for the Oosterschelde Flood Barriers, the 'Ir. Topshuis'. The exhibition provided information about 2000 years of water management in the Zeeland Delta area.
